About Lindsey Walsh
Lindsey began her training at Falmouth School of Art in 1991. She went on to graduate from Loughborough College of Art and Design with a First Class Honours Degree in Textile design. Since then she has exhibited and sold designs in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Broader artistic interests include interior design, specialising in the bespoke textile and mosaic design projects. Most recently, Lindsey has concentrated on working in the medium of clay.
Ceramic pieces are hand built using a variety of techniques. Decoration is incised into the ‘leather hard' clay surface. After undergoing a biscuit firing, colour is applied using various pigments, glazes and metallic oxides. A further low temperature ‘Raku' firing then takes place. The Raku process produces purely decorative ceramics. This technique allows pieces to be heated rapidly before being removed from the kiln whilst red hot and placed in combustible material to cool. Fire and smoke combine to create unpredictable, vibrant and entirely unique results.
Her creative inspiration is drawn from natural forms. Shapes are revealed in animal and plant structures, light and movement on water - ever changing and ephemeral. The Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau styles also provide a strong influence through a use of organic forms and graceful flowing lines. Images are abstracted and become stylized designs, created by combining colour, texture and pattern to indulge a passion for decoration and ornament.
