About Rachel Brown

Rachel Brown

Born in rural Oxfordshire in 1969, Rachel spent her early years either creating or outdoors in the countryside. Her love of nature took her in the direction of an MSc in Environmental management at Stirling University, where she spent most of her 20's working on assignments in the Himalayas, or in Scotland, always with a sketchbook and camera to hand.

Coming from a family of painters, potters and sculptors she has tried her hand at many a creative project, now spending most of her time painting either in Cornwall or in the New Forest.

Rachel paints mainly in situ creating atmospheric impressionist work, sketching swiftly in pastel and acrylic, then developing these further with layers of oil, using brush, palette knife or fingers on return to her studio.

"I feel an overwhelming sense of joy and hope when I am outside; a combination of colour, light and form fill me with excitement. My paintings become a conversation between the sensory rush I feel and the natural elements I find myself captured by".

Living with her husband, son and dog on the edge of the New Forest, Rachel makes regular painting trips to Cornwall and has exhibited widely across the south coast.
